However I tend to play it safe because I simply know what I like, I know what suits me and also what suits me in regards to how much time I've got to slap things on my face. So these picks really are tried and tested and therefore staples to my beauty
So, first my base of choice is the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide foundation. It's water based meaning you have to shake it up prior to application but despite having pretty oily skin, I find no issues with the lasting power of this. It offers medium, buildable coverage and dries down to a luminous, skin like, semi-matte finish. I've repurchased this a good few times and while I seem to have been incorrectly colour matched every damn time, it blends beautifully so I can make it work!
This then introduces one of my all time favourite make-up items, NARS Laguna, the ultimate bronzer, non? I tend to have to bronze my neck to fix any obvious white neck/chest issues from colour matching, and Laguna does this brilliantly. I literally have to stop myself from getting too bronzer happy as I would happily cover myself in this product! I forgot about it for 18 months or so but treated myself a month or so ago and hey, I'm stuck with this guy!
Another repurchase is the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer. I bought this years ago and thought I loved it and then one day just gave up on it and experimented with a bunch of other concealers (because that doesn't sound like some filthy sexual make-up story? Oo-er). I was lured into the Laura Mercier counter a few months ago and look what came back with me (seriously, why am I writing like this is some messed up make-up 'romp'?)... I still don't know if I absolutely love this though. It covers well, but not completely. I get a lot of cystic acne and dark post-blemish marks that can be a real pain to cover, so tend to layer up with this. It's a good thick, matte texture though so perfect for blemishes.
Before this weird hay fever/stress induced eye eczema thing that's been going on I was head over heels with the Stila Eyes Are The Window Spirit palette. I'm letting my eyes breathe for a little while now but the shades Puppy (cute name! Gorgeous, soft matte milky-brown, top centre)
Whilst I do have oily skin, I do like to just perk my skin up a little with a smidge of highlighter. The Topshop Glow Highlighter in Gleam is a lovely way of being able to create a build able glow to the high points of your face. I just take a smidge and pat it along my cheekbones as that's enough to wake my face up a little, and make my eyes look a little brighter too. I wish this didn't come in a pot as half the time you end up with highlighter under your finger nails but hey, it could be worse.
For everyday lips, I adore the Clinique Lip Pops in Nude. This is a very wearable, everyday nude pink that's comfortable to wear. It hasn't got the best lasting power but I like to apply, dab and blend it a little, apply and repeat until I've built up a strong colour and find this wears a little longer.
For when I need a little cheering up (don't we all at the moment?!), I'm obsessed with the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Venezia. This gorgeous, hot pink really wakes my face up and I find it very wearable. Usually bright colours can be a little tricky to wear but I can see this working all year round. It really does stay all day too! I recommend ensuring your lips are well buffed and hydrated before applying, but otherwise, whilst you'll feel it drying down on your lips, it never gets uncomfortable. I'm so eager to try more colours!
